Meet the Team at our Hamilton Child Care Centre : Play to Learn.
Our Early Learning Centre Manager – Full Teacher Registration
My love for early childhood education started when my first child was born. I became actively involved in Mini Groovers, Play Centre and Kaitake Kindergarten. I have fond memories of these experiences and from here, this is where it all begins…
We moved to Hamilton and I gained my Diploma in early childhood through Wintec which I loved. During this time the highlight for me was gaining a scholarship and Wintec sent me to Canada to gain experience about early childhood in another country. I was based in Calgary and was fortunate in spending some time on a reservation, experiencing their indigenous culture with the Blackfoot tribe – it was truly an amazing, calming experience.
Over the years I have had some amazing mentors, Jo and Vince, just to mention a few and still to this day I often reflect on their teachings to help me become a better teacher every day. I am also very grateful for my family in their respectful ways and very proud that Taranaki is my turangawaewae (ancestral home).
I am very passionate about early childhood and live and breathe it every day. I strongly believe in respectful care, promoting holistic learning in every way that I can, advocating our awesome early childhood curriculum, Te Whariki.
I also believe in great partnerships with whanau, children are your world, mean absolutely everything to you and strong relationships with everyone close to them will support them in becoming who they want to be and with a great sense of pride.
We value our team spirit that we have here and when you enter our lovely centre, you will receive a family like, warm feeling from every staff member. We all have so much to offer you with all our knowledge and experience and like you, we want the best for you and your child. Over the years I have heard so many wonderful quotes, but this is my favourite “every child needs someone to be crazy about them” – so true isn’t it?
Well in my spare time, I love to spend it most with my family tending to my pretty cool husband, Isaac and our beautiful children Jurnee, Nikau and Hawaiki (who is our youngest, and your see him running around playing, in the centre playground).
Welcome to Play to Learn and thank you for choosing us !
Under 2s Teacher – Full Teacher Registration
Hello my name is Lucy and I am a mum of two amazing active boys aged 6 and 3. I enjoy keeping busy with them going for bike rides, swimming, baking and being creative.
I have worked in early childhood education for 18 years in different ways including childcare centres with all ages, nannying in London and as a visiting teacher.
As long as I can remember I have loved being around children. Children amaze me the way they can look at everything outside of the box and see the world from such a different perspective from an adult. Children have so much to teach us as we teach them, and so the partnership begins. I love their curiosity for exploration of all kinds and learning and I feel privileged to be part of their journey to reach their potential.
Under 2s Teacher – Full Teacher Registration
Kia Ora, Hello, Ni Hao,
My name is Susie. I am originally from Shanghai, China. I came to study in New Zealand 11 years ago, and have been living in Hamilton since then. I am married with a two-year-old daughter Ivy. I have a Bachelor of Art Degree and a graduate diploma in Early Childhood Education.
I am a fully registered teacher, and have been working in early childhood for 6 years. I believe that children deserve to be treated with kindness and to be exposed to beautiful people, places, and resources that inspire their curiosity to learn.
In my spare time I like to spend time with family and friends, reading and travelling.
It is my pleasure to be a part of the Play to Learn team, and looking after the young tamariki in the Kea Room.
I look forward to watching your children grow and learn, working together with parents and whanau.

Ko Te Mawehe Williams ahau. I am of Tainui descent and a grandparent to five beautiful mokopuna.
My three children have flown the nest and all live abroad.
I hold a qualified registration in Early Childhood and have worked in Mainstream, Billingual and Te Kohaanga centre settings.
My interests are spending time with my whaanau, and travelling to see my mokopuna as much as I can. I enjoy a range of things such as dancing, waiata and koorero Maaori and playing the guitar (nothing too flash though).
My principles and values of love, happiness and respect stem from my loving Nani who played a great significant in my life, and hope I can give back in return. Ahakoa he iti he pounamu.

Over 2s Teacher – Provisional Teacher Registration
My name is Grace. I recently left Auckland and started my big adventure with my partner down here in Hamilton. I am a qualified and provisionally registered teacher who loves children. I have worked with children in various different groups from working within the Girl Guiding association and running a fun Friday night children’s program with the support of the Salvation Army.
I believe children need real hands on experiences to be able to explore and make working theories within this world. As a teacher I strive to give these experiences to children both in my every day practice and special events like a summer water slide.
In my spare time I’m often travelling if not to Auckland to visit family in the Coromandel or somewhere with a good surf beach so my partner and I can body board. I love to swim, walk and Zumba!
I look forward to getting to know you and your family as I help to support your children to grow and develop into incredible young learners.
Ahakoa he iti he pounamu – Despite being small you are of great value.
