What’s Been Happening
Spring is here! We look forward to the warmer weather heading our way. This means more water play (please remember to pack an extra change of clothing).
It’s been a busy month with Father’s Day – Happy Father’s Day to all our Centre dads, we hope you all got spoilt rotten! And our September Tupperware Party – Thank you to everyone who attended our Tupperware party – our kitchen is looking top notch and we have been enjoying our new kitchen equipment with the children!
Learning at the Play Centre
Our current group focus happens to be science at the moment, we have been extending on our children’s interests in baking, messy play and the natural world. The teachers are enjoying teaching and learning more about this topic as it involves lots of experiments that are mind blowing.
As part of our group interest we have been focusing on ways to extend the children’s interest in baking. We recently trialing “process baking” in which the children had a go at making their own biscuit from start to finish (all on their own). Later we made icing and iced our biscuits, these activities challenge and extend children’s learning when it comes to basic science and mathematics concepts such as measurement, change of state and so forth. We would love any recipes from home that parents are keen to share.
Resources Needed
Also please keep the resources flowing such as containers and other bits and bobs that you think the children will love to use. We recently set up a shop with children using donated empty food containers, boxes and an old fax machine. A big THANK YOU to Eric from Lely for donating extra-large boxes. We have created our own little box community. The children helped create houses, a jail, an ice cream shop and also a car wash. I wonder what the children will want to make next. The children in the Kea room have also been loving the large boxes provided by Eric we have turned one into a house for them, we look forward to extending on this new resource in various ways in the coming weeks for the children.
Fund Raising for Cancer
Thanks to all who wore different shoes for odd shoe day, we raised $26.40 to go towards camp quality charity. It was great to see the children all dressed in yellow to celebrate daffodil day – these proceeds went towards the Cancer society ($32.00).
New Nappy Service
We are also excited to announce that we have started offering a nappy service to those families that expressed interest, we hope this will help make your busy lives that little but easier.
Well wishes to our friends who are now five and experiencing their school journey, hope you are all enjoying school.
Keep an eye out for our Preschool Holiday Programme roster starting in October for the school holidays. We are excited to host a number of themed days and activities.
