Our programme planning
The foundations of our programme is based on Te Whāriki, New Zealand’s Early Childhood Curriculum.
This curriculum is about the aspirations for children to grow up as competent and confident learners and communicators, healthy in mind, body and spirit, secure in their sense of belonging and in the knowledge that they make a valued contribution to society.
We believe children learn from doing things that they enjoy. Our programme planning evolves from children’s strengths and interests, which teachers notice, recognise and respond to by providing challenging and thought-provoking experiences
Learning Journals and online portfolios
Every child at Play to Learn child care centre has a learning file that documents their learning, these precious books of memories are a collaboration of learning stories, project documentation, observations, photos and parent/whānau voice. These precious journals belong to you and your child we welcome your aspirations and dreams for your child, drawings, photos and stories that make visible links between home and the centre.
These special journals are also online, upon enrolment you will be given a unique login and password to our parent portal where you are able to view your child’s learning journal, newsletters, notices and up to date account information.
We pride ourselves on having qualified staff that love children. We have a minimum of 80% qualified staff each day and carry an extra teacher that puts us above minimum teacher/child ratios.
We have an open door policy and encourage parents/caregivers to spend as much time as desired in the centre.
Play to Learn has an onsite cook and provide all meals at Play to Learn Early Learning Centre for full-time children, our menu is available to read each week and we are happy to adapt these menu’s to meet your child’s special food requirements.
Children do not need to bring drink bottles as filtered water is readily available.
Parents are required to bring clearly named bottles for children who are on formula, or expressed breast milk. Please ensure you have enough milk for each day.
Nappies and Toileting
Please provide sufficient disposable nappies for your child’s day at the centre. Each child in nappies will have a place for nappies in the bathroom. The centre will use unscented wipes, however, should your child need specific wipes or creams please name these, inform a teacher and place with the child’s nappies
Sleeping and Rest times
Infants and toddlers individual sleep routines are kept to that of their home routine where ever possible. They sleep in cots or on a stretcher bed in a designated sleep area. Each child has their own linen which is supplied and laundered weekly by Play to Learn Early Learning Centre.
Settling in process
Change for all of us is exciting but it can also be challenging, we want you to feel comfortable about leaving your child in the care of Play to Learn, please make as many visits as possible prior to starting your child to enable you and your child to become familiar with the centre and staff.
What you need from home
Please bring anything that you feel will ease the transition process when first starting your child at Play to Learn. Items your child will need in their bags include:
